Taste authentic Japanese cuisine made with local ingredients
in a space filled with the charms of Japan
Lots of light lunch options on the menu, too

Satoshi Katsumata, who polished his skills in Kyoto and Sapporo, operates this Japanese eatery that combines warm hospitality with food made from fresh local seafood and seasonal vegetables. The menu of course features authentic full-course meals, but also check out their lunch menu with items like "Pork Tenderloin Cutlet" and "Pork Bowl" made from Noboribetsu-grown brand-name pork, and "Prawn and Scallop Fry". Wakana is known for its unstuffy atmosphere that lets you unwind and enjoy your meal.

"Bountiful Assortment", a well-balanced combination of various dishes that is a feast for the eyes, gives you a choice of "Rice with Dried Baby Sardines", "Inaniwa Udon Noodles", "Tea Soba Noodles", "Buckwheat and Green Tea Soba Noodles", and "Uumen", a type of fine noodle that is a specialty of Noboribetsu's sister city, Shiroishi in Miyagi Prefecture.

The restaurant has private rooms that are available even for small numbers of people, so if you have small children with you, you can spread out and relax there. At night you will want to enjoy "Kaiseki Ryori", a traditional Japanese meal brought in courses, or order a la carte dishes to enjoy with sake.

The assortment of sashimi that comes with the "Recommended Course": a combination of locally produced black seabream, scallops, and tuna from Matsumae.
In addition to counter seating, there are private rooms with seating on legless chairs around sunken pits, table seating, and also a spacious banquet room.
The décor is elegant Japanese modern. Wakana is of course recommended for formal meals but it is also the kind of place you will want to go on a regular basis for more casual eating.
Proprietor
Mr. Satoshi Katsumata
"Every day I go to the market to lay in fresh fish and vegetables. I aim to present meals with a seasonal feeling that use local ingredients whenever possible. We keep a live fish tank in the restaurant so that you can enjoy fresh fish caught in the waters off Noboribetsu at any time."
